PingSweep is a lightweight, command prompt tool that enables you to send small packets of information to another computer and create a log of the response times.
You can use PingSweep to establish a range of IP addresses in short time and with very little effort.

Hi. PingSweep is a simple tool that you can run on a computer to send a ping to all
available IP addresses on the Internet. You can use this tool to test your bandwidth,
latency and the quality of your Internet connection. Using PingSweep to scan the Internet is often used by people setting up new computers (e.g. to
test the connection to the Internet before a PPP connection or a true dial-up connection). If you set
PingSweep to only send Ping requests every 5 minutes and to only perform a single
Ping request at each time, then it will take you very little time to complete your test.
Using PingSweep:
1. Install PingSweep to the location specified in the Install.txt file.
2. Start the application by typing pingsweep.
3. Command line arguments are passed to the ping command. The default argument for pingsweep
is a series of IP addresses (e.g. 192.168.0.0/24). When you use the /24 option, each IP
address is separated by a comma (e.g. 192.168.0.1,192.168.0.2,192.168.0.3,192.168.0.4,192.168.0.5).
4. All of the available TCP ports (0-65535) are used as a source for pings. The default is to ping
the first available port.
5. If you enter invalid characters in the command prompt, it will print an error message and
return.
6. The default is to send a series of ping requests every 5 minutes, which sends 100 pings to the
previously scanned IP addresses.
7. If you want to reset the times for the checks, then type:
reset

To use PingSweep you have to download it to your system and run it.
To run the PingSweep you have to select the operating system from the dropdown list.
When the application is started you need to select a kind of event that you want to create.

When you select a kind of events you have to select the start IP address, the end IP address, the start port, the end port and the packet length.
You can create ping files to test the latency for a number of hosts.

Before you start to create a ping file or sweep file you can change the time that you want to wait in between sending the packet.
The user can change the port and packet size.
When you select start IP and end IP you can select one of the following:
– The first IP address in the subnet
– The last IP address in the subnet
– The first IP address in the subnet and the last IP address in the subnet
– The first and the last IP address in the subnet
To create a sweep file you have to select the start IP address, the end IP address, the start port, the end port and the packet length.
You can create sweep files to collect and log the response times for a number of hosts.

Test Automation Architecture Design Question
I am looking to start a new project that will use some sort of test automation framework. Currently we are using the IDEs built in test automation functionality, but it is old and we have decided to start using a framework.
I am wondering what approaches others have taken for testing their code? Do you write your tests in the code and run a test framework, or do you write them separately in a test framework and run them with the IDE?
Any comments or insight would be much appreciated.
