In the original release, the software could be used to draw three-dimensional (3D) solid models of physical objects (bodies), as well as mathematical solids and 2D images. All object drawing was done with a wireframe model of the object. For example, you could create the face of a new building, then finish the object by adding walls and doors, and then, as you complete the construction, add furniture, appliances, and fixtures.

Since AutoCAD’s introduction, versions of AutoCAD have been released for Apple, Microsoft Windows, iOS, Android, and Linux operating systems. All versions are designed to be compatible with each other’s data and can share models, drawings, and drawings with each other.

In the 21st century, AutoCAD continues to be used by architects, designers, engineers, and drafters, as well as students, hobbyists, home builders, and contract signers. For example, it is used by contractors, home builders, and real estate agents who are building, renovating, or selling a home, or remodeling a kitchen or bathroom. Overview

AutoCAD is an industry standard CAD application. In addition to 2D and 3D modeling, it includes the ability to draw 2D images, import and create DXF files (vector drawings), and view, edit, and publish PDF documents.

AutoCAD is capable of drawing, editing, and publishing 2D drawings (2D-only model). To make the model, you can draw 2D shapes using a mouse or graphics tablet. To finish the model, you add the other common shapes you’ll need.

With 3D-only models, you can draw both planar and volumetric models. With a planar model, you draw lines in the z-axis and then connect them with other shapes. With a volumetric model, you draw 3D shapes on any number of planes, similar to those used in paper

Developed by Autodesk, this cross-platform program lets users view and edit 3D drawings. Users can open, edit, and save DXF files, which are the most common file format for 3D CAD drawings. It supports importing and exporting native AutoCAD files, as well as SVG, PDF, and STL. Since version 2013 it can support Solid Edge files natively. It also has built-in support for Pro/ENGINEER files. AutoCAD can read DWG and DXF files that are sent directly to it from older CAD programs. Using the VDI feature, users can open a virtual desktop and work in a sandboxed area. AutoCAD can read and display STEP files. Using third-party plugins, AutoCAD can support other formats like STL, COLLADA, PLY, OFFICE XML, INX, BRL-CAD, WEB CADDY, BLEND, RIB, and many others.

Originally developed as an Autodesk Viewer for AutoCAD, it is a cross-platform 3D graphics engine, used in many different applications. It was originally designed to be used for viewing 3D, but can also be used to create 3D.

For users in engineering and architecture fields, a solution was created that lets users create the more current standard 3D solid modeling files. It also integrates with Autodesk’s AutoCAD products.

In 2011, Autodesk released The Building Information Modeling Initiative (BIM). It will be a BIM Standard by Autodesk allowing cross-platform work across products. In December 2013, Autodesk rolled out an update to its Autodesk Revit platform which added a new BIM toolset in Revit Architecture and Revit MEP.

Open Autocad and click Tools > Options and set the Render Path to DirectLighting.
Click OK.
Open Autocad and on the Parametric Window click the Render Settings icon > Light from Wireframe.
Close Autocad and open the xcv file in notepad.
Find the [render_dir]\xcv\autocad.ini file and find the line [DefaultRenderPath] and change it to DirectLighting.
Run Autocad and open a new model and export it to a file (you can use a very simple 2D model for this).
Import the xcv file you made in step 6 and save it.
Open Autocad and open the new xcv file you made in step 7.
Close Autocad.

Equation for conic through three points

I’ve found many sites on this question, but none have the equation I need.
I’ve got three points in space, and I need to find the conic that goes through them. If it’s possible, I’d like to also get the equation for the points where the conic intersects the three points. Any ideas?

Pick a point $P$ not on the plane. Draw the line $mP$ orthogonal to the plane. It is the locus of points $M$ satisfying $PM=1$. For $M$ on the plane, its equation is $PX_1+PX_2=0$.
The line $mP$ is tangent to the conic at $M$, and the conic is given by
$$
QX_1^2+2QX_1X_2+QX_2^2=0
$$
where $Q=PM/(PM,P)$.

Let $C$ be the conic you want to find. If the conic is not singular, then it is given by
$$
ax^2+2bxy+2cy^2+dx+2ey+f=0
$$
So the three points on the conic are at

(0,0,0),(a,2b,c),(2a,2b,c)
$$

Edit and Comment:

Edit and Comment (Help menu|Comment and Review|Edit and Comment) for your drawings. The integrated comment tool is available in all drawing tabs (2D, 3D, 3D Wireframe, and 2D Wireframe). Using the integrated comment tool, your comment can be displayed in the drawing window, in a separate window, or in a separate panel. The comments can also be sent to a third party site such as Google Docs or Microsoft OneDrive for collaboration with others.

When you save your drawing, a comment is automatically added. If you create a drawing in Drafting mode, the comments can be displayed in the drawing window. However, if you save your drawing in Standard mode, comments can only be sent to a third-party system. Additionally, comments can be saved in your Personalized settings.

Importing and exporting of comments is now supported:

Importing Comments from a file in a ZIP archive or through the Import Comments dialog.

Export Comments in a standard file format or export comments in the same format as the original comments.

You can also use Comments to transfer comments between drawings or to other 3D software.

AutoCAD 2020 and AutoCAD LT 2020 now support drawing comments in Drafting mode. You can comment in a drawing while creating a new drawing or from an existing drawing. A comment with a status of “Approved” or “Revision” is placed in the drawing, and will be shown in the DRAWING_EDIT|COMMENT window.

When you open a drawing, comments are automatically displayed in the drawing window.

You can navigate through the drawing and its comments using the Drawing View bar.

Creating a new drawing now has three options: Blank, Create Drawing From an Existing Drawing, or Create Drawing From a File.
