EasyTranscript is a handy and reliable transcription tool, but it’s not a semi-professional tool. If that’s your only goal, you can just pass by this tool. It’s for those of us who like to edit documents and need a basic tool to do so.
So let’s begin with the positives. In terms of the functionality, EasyTranscript is as basic as they come. You can record one audio file or a group of them, adjust the speed and play it back. You can also choose a project you previously created and start recording from that. If you change your mind, you can save your recording on a different project.
The tool is also extremely easy to use. There is just one window where all of the functionality is exposed. You can start recording, stop it, record an audio and video file, and so on. There is also a convenient bar on the top where you can scroll through all of your projects and even save your recording onto a new project.
For those of you who may not be aware of, EasyTranscript is not free. At best, it’s a “Lite” version of the program and the “Pro” version is more expensive. You can however upgrade, but for $59 it is pretty hard to justify the purchase, especially since you can get a free trial version. So honestly, I’d say just give it a try and you can always go back to the free version if you don’t like it.
The Lite version is really not bad, it simply lacks the functionality of the Pro version. The site of course has some Pro features, but it’s not fair to actually recommend it for basic audio editing.
In regards to support, you can expect a one-time response. What’s more, you can expect it to take a few days to get a response back. (maybe you need to try better communication?)
So the list of positives is far from extensive.
Now, the negatives.
The second flaw is that you cannot record more than one file at a time. I find that a really terrible decision by the developers. In the pro version, you can record up to 4 files at a time. This means in effect that you can not use the project for multitasking which you can do easily in the free version.
