Hello Squad is a top-down shoot ’em up with the most robust level design I’ve seen in ages. Using the map system, which has you completing tasks to unlock other parts of the map, you’re able to explore every corner of a large factory.

Each level has puzzles that require you to trace the path of a mine or pull a string in order to destroy the machinery in a factory. Successfully destroying a given part of the factory allows you to complete a level.

While the controls may be a little daunting at first and he doesn’t have a fluid combat system that is reminiscent of Golden Axe (where you can throw enemies and get wild hitstacks, for example) it’s still a solid game with an excellent level design. This is my current favourite game of the year!

I know there is a mini-game accessible from the main menu that allows you to do the puzzle, but I’m not sure where it’s found.

Just finished this game a few days ago, loved it. But at first it was really hard and a bit confusing but once you figure it out it gets really fun and addicting. There is a bit of a hidden catch though, if you fail a level you go back to the beginning of it and that’s where you have to start all over again. Its really frustrating and I don’t know if its possible to get an alternate ending. This game is awesome and its one of my favorite games so far this year.
