The Virtual Reality (VR) part of this new Roller Coaster Simulator is very easy: You hold a Oculus Rift headset on your head and put on the Oculus Touch controllers. Because you are inside a headset, a little virtual window is opened on top of your real one. The VR part of this is as simple as that. It works great. The Roller Coaster part, that is a bit more complicated. Although you “are” inside a VR headset, that does not mean you actually are on a roller coaster. The VR goggles actually come in contact with the roller coaster seats. When you look at your motion controller, you actually look into the eyes of other passengers. But that is enough to scare people. The VR part is set in a virtual universe called “Virtual Reality City”, it is a 3D interactive city with roads and buildings. It is a place where you enter the roller coaster by going to the office of the Roller Coaster Simulator, you sign in, choose your track and ride the roller coaster. But you do not ride the roller coaster. You “am” the roller coaster, and in this way you drive through the city streets. The road is not a road in the real world, it is a 3D world that you drive through. Every time you enter a building, you see through it, and you can enter the halls and different rooms.”
The roller coaster simulator with 4 flat steel tracks is designed for the new Oculus Rift and Oculus Touch controllers. You can chose your lane, and drive to the top. You can also “fail” by going off your track, lose a coin or two and have to start again. Or you can go for the “fastest time” by driving straight to the end of the track. There are also buildings to go through, and you can look out of windows and into different rooms.
There are four different settings: The European version is set in London, in the UK, and you are driving in the centre of the city. The second setting is Barcelona, in Spain. The ride is set in the upper area of the city, it is a roller coaster with a steep climb up to the top. The tracks are longer than on the other settings, and you need to take tight corners to get to the top. The last setting is set in California, USA. It is even longer, takes a lot of tight corners, but you reach the top in the end. All in all,

What’s new in Myoubouh Catcher:
My first encounter with lack of quality came with a Powerquest Compact Flash card. I was sold on buying from Powerquest because the company was windcheater.com’s biggest advertiser, and having claimed the rate with a gusto that was only forgivable after a year of being ripped off by another flash-memory card spec merchant, the card was a good deal. Alas, I received it, I put it in my computer, I tested it, and, as I suspected, it was defective. Using far too much power, the card’s flash cells would overheat, causing the card to fail and corrupt the data on the card.
Moral: Don’t assume. Certainly, go the dealer. But you should really test the card when it’s new.
Thus started my journey to find software that would test devices for defective solid state storage media. With the promise of easy testing, I settled on Rob Galbraith’s software before I had even read the manual. (Incidentally, missing a project is one of the easiest ways to fail: Remember that you’re competing for a portion of the fact that I’m now paying attention to you.)
PowerQuest had a little old software that ripped the FD bar code off the back of the flash card. The card was tested, and if the testing didn’t reveal any problems, a nice fruit basket was thrown in my office for being a highly qualified buyer. Alas, the software was not of the NIST traceable accuracy variety, but since the company made sense and my cells would have been fine, and since I enjoyed testing the max of a hundred JPEG files, I reluctantly put up with using the software. I use this software primarily to sanity check the mirror JPEGs I take during my photoshoots.
When I saw the job I did for the current fact that had to be taken care of, I was dubious that I was overreacting, as the cells were performing well, but I did my best to give them a proper environment, with minimal processor usage, and I decided to see just how well the card would respond to the heat, humidity, vibration, and yukkistic metal exposure.
