When you edit, you can choose either the foreground or the background to edit. You’ll have an easier time if you know how to create layers.

Step 2: Set the tool palette
With all three tools activated, you have five tools, arranged in a triangle, on the palette. Each tool can be activated via one of the five tool icons on the palette, or by using the cross-shaped keyboard shortcut keys, to access Photoshop’s different editing tools. In addition, some of the tools available are for creating and deleting layers, such as the Gradient tool.
