Agnosco DICOM Viewer is a great reader
I recommend this application to anyone looking for a standalone DICOM reader. The interface is easy to understand, it displays the images and allows you to zoom in to the best possible resolution. The metadata is displayed in a very easy to see and understandable way, with simple configuration options. That makes it a good alternative for very busy doctors.
