1. **Make sure that the background is deselected and that there is a layer active on your Layers palette.**
A layer active on the Layers palette is one that has content on it. (Chapter 3 has more information about layers.)
2. **Use the Filter menu and click the Lasso Tool icon (first icon below the layer name in the Layers palette) to create a new selection.**
The cursor changes to a crosshairs shape and fills with a bright blue color, as shown in Figure 7-2. This is the Lasso tool.
You can draw a selection box around an area or even a specific layer within an image. To create a selection box, follow these steps:
1. Click anywhere on the image to make a rectangular selection.
2. Drag on the image in the direction you want to draw the selection and the mouse clicks automatically establish the sides of the selection box.
3. **Draw a box around a section of the image.**
It can even be a jaggedy selection box.
4. **In the tools panel, click the New Layer icon at the top of the Layers palette to create a new layer.**
A new layer is added in the Layers palette. You can add as many layers as you want. (Chapter 3 talks about layers.)
5. **Select the green Fill icon from the toolbox or choose Image⇒Mode⇒Fill.**
A new white fill, shown in Figure 7-3, is added to the selection box.
You can use different colors and layer styles to create the appearance you want. Chapter 3 has some helpful information on using this tool.
6. **Drag the new layer to your Layers palette.**
Notice that the new layer is added to the same group as the image layer.
7. **Choose File** ⇒ **Save As and click the Save for Web and Devices icon to save your file to your hard drive.**
The image is now saved with the extension.psd. (Chapter 3 has more information about saving an image for web use.)

If you are currently using Photoshop Elements 11, check out the Adobe Support to see how to uninstall.
1. Click on the Windows taskbar.
2. Click on the ‘Start’ menu, and then choose ‘Control Panel’.
3. Choose ‘Uninstall a Program’, and then, from the dropdown menu, choose ‘Adobe Photoshop Elements’.
4. Click on ‘Continue’, and then click ‘Uninstall’.
5. Once the program has been uninstalled, you can delete it through the Windows OS.
6. To remove application files, go to the Start menu and choose ‘C:\Program Files\Adobe Photoshop Elements 11.0’.
7. You can do the same with the files from the Adobe Application Manager. Choose ‘C:\Program Files\Adobe Application Manager 11.0\apps\Adobe Photoshop Elements 11.0\Adobe Photoshop Elements 11.0.exe’.
If you are currently using a free image editor, you can still go to the Adobe page and uninstall. Make sure you delete the files according to the instructions above.
If you want to revert back to the non-free version, you can install the free Adobe Photoshop Elements (not 11.0, but 11.0) from here.
Can’t find Photoshop Elements on your computer?
You can try this method with an older version of Photoshop Elements. If you have version 11.0 or higher installed, you may need to use the uninstall Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 method.
In any case, you will need to first download the non-free Adobe Photoshop Elements 11.0 from here. After downloading, install the app, following the steps above.

To quickly apply the same type of effect on many objects, you can simply create a Layer Style. This applies the same effect to all objects on the layer.
Ink and paint tools
Use an ink or paint tool to create lines, splatters and other effects. You can easily adjust the type, colors, size and direction of your line or splatter. You can also adjust a gradient effect when using an ink and paint tool.

Since the beginning of this year at least 2 burglaries have taken place in the area of the Rue d’Amsterdam.
An advert has been placed in local newspapers and on a website offering a reward for information leading to the conviction of those responsible.
The ad, placed on the official website of the Secretary General of the Interior and Urban Development with the title “We must catch the Burglar!”, contains a photo of a young man from a security camera walking near Rue d’Amsterdam. This photo was taken on the evening of Thursday April 5th, around 20h30.
On the web, the man is said to be approx. 21 years old with dark hair and goatee, a diamond earring in his left ear and a tattoo on his left arm.
