Operation FS Scenario + Advanced Fog Of War In The Pacific Mem Patch Free

February 1942. On the eve of the Second World War, Japan’s decisive fleet carriers strike at Midway. In the center of the Pacific, the American fleet is nowhere to be found. A carefully planned ambush, the battle of Midway will change the history of the world.

Operation FS – Scenario August 1942
Operation FS-11 or FS-42 was a part of the Amphibious Campaign in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II. It involved landing troops on the small Japanese island of Makin in the Gilbert Islands by assault, with the goal of preying on Japanese shipping on the dangerous islands to the north.

The Allied Marines took possession of Makin on 2 August 1942, but were driven back into the sea by Japanese counter-attacks over the next five days. The battle was a severe defeat for the Marines and saw the first landings of the Empire of Japan in the Pacific.

Key Features:

Landing at Makin: When planning your landings, keep in mind that the Marines wanted to outflank the Japanese airfields on Rendova and Shortland with a land attack from the north. It is also important to remember that the Japanese were deployed at considerable depth, so look for opportunities to get men in close on Red Beach.

Seize the Airfield: It is always a mistake to land at a beach and then forget about the airfield. The Japanese were dug in, so the Marines must seize the airfield quickly and then hold it.

The Sickly Warbirds: You know them. The old fighters and fighters-bombers the Japanese left behind after Pearl Harbor. Head for the airfield, but don’t let them get to you. You know how these birds work!

Player Warnings:

Fog of war: Though there are on-screen meters for the number of enemy units on the field, the Fog of War count is not reflected on the board during a play-through of the scenario, so one must keep count of the number of units on the field until the end of the game.

Counters: Because the player is fighting a scenario that predates TZB’s integration of the counters to the board, there are missing counters which make the game too hard to play. A walk-around of the board at the end of the scenario is recommended.

Game Impressions:

Overall the scenario plays fairly well, but would be difficult to play

    General Notes

Receiver Error: This scenario will not function properly if you have Old Kinect 1.5.1. This may be due to the changed TUG unit model, which lead to some error messaging. Downgrade the TUG to the one released earlier. Also updates for will fix this error for everyone.

Only one of the main Japanese and American task forces is under close attack.
The Japanese carrier Shokaku is surrounded by dive bombers and torpedo planes. She does not escape during the first airstrike.
Nearby is the escort carrier Hiyo Maru. She is badly damaged by three kamikaze attacks and she can barely stay afloat.
The Japanese destroyers Ki-27 are no longer in the area and it will take a while to sort them out.
The Japanese merchant Maikaze is on the wrong course so it is unlikely that the American submarines will find her.
Both sides are still searching for the other. It takes a little while to complete.
The conditions are rather good. Only the bad weather makes the enemy movements in the last days of the game difficult to read, but it is not that bad.
The Japanese have collected quite a lot of important information about the other enemy.
Analysing the theses predictions is not so easy. It is a good choice of a surprise fight, especially if the carrier fleet plays the role of a false target.
Does it work in this game?
A detailed report on the American task force including the carrier Hiryu and all units assigned to the battle is available in the game.
Experience of the American carrier fleet tells us that this is quite a good solution.
The Americans have lost several carriers in the Pacific and the veterans will know that any but the best recommendations to fight are not an option.

The Japanese have as their task force also some important units of the Japanese 7th Fleet, guarding the Indian Ocean and Malay around Singapore and based in Manchukuo.
The US Navy has dispatched both its carriers to the Pacific. The task force made up of the Saratoga and Enterprise are based on the west coast while the Yorktown is stationed on the east coast of the United States. The carriers are each supported by several squadrons of dive bombers and torpedo bombers and fighter planes.

    Description

A module included in the April ’42 big download. It was offered to my members after being selected as the best additional module during the game play evaluation sessions.

Operation FS – Scenario July 42A What-if scenario.Midway has not occurred and the Japanese attempt to invade New Hebrides. Both sides commit their big carrier fleets for the control of these strategic island.Shall it be THE decisive battle sought by Yamamoto and Nimitz?

From the Japanese carrier’s viewpoint, the navy’s strategic mission is to fulfill what is supposed to be the Navy’s mission: seize the island and control it (or deny enemy forces control of it). In order to obtain those objectives, the navy must prevent the enemy from establishing a base. If the enemy has a base there, and can resupply and reinforce, they can easily withstand attacks by the U.S. fleet, and the U.S. can only mount limited attacks, as the « PacFORT » is not fully committed.

The first two turns are about spotting and getting an opportunity to attack, while the last three are about denying that opportunity to the enemy.

Note that on the objective board, the U.S. positions are the actual positions, while on the enemy board, Japanese positions are marked with U.S. « flag ».

    The module includes:

    – Original full movement by carrier fleets

    – Command of Fleet Air Arm squadrons and flotilla units

    – War offensives by the Japanese Main Force

    – A scene of the battle is played on the extended map of New Guinea, while the other (seemingly empty) map shows the positions of the Japanese carrier fleet

    – A complete record of enemy and friendly movement and disposition of air squadrons, with a search and contact action turn history

    – Two additional special rules for carrier air operations (among other things)

    – Reasonable simulations of carrier group tactics

    – Optional: one additional reward squadron (but the work around for this reward squadron is quite sophisticated)

    Features:

    – Control of the air carriers by the Japanese Main Force is the main goal

    – All other Japanese carrier activities are secondary, at best (e.g. offensive operations may be launched, but are no longer the main mission, and attacks on the airfield are not sufficient for victory)

    – Control of the airfields is not included in the Japanese Main Force; but
